Inluencers’ Influence to the Masses


Our society’s growing fondness when it comes to social media is truly amazing. From social media accounts, to online selling and now mostly everyone vlogs! In a way, it can be attributed to the country’s prevalent problem today which is the deadly Coronavirus. What a better way to spend the quarantine era than to interact in social media! With this, there comes the different personalities that people look out for, take inspiration from, and even admiraton. These people who usually start trends, used as faces for advertisements, and mainly attract a following. They are the new in.

These people are what are known today in our generation as  “influencers.” Being an influencer is appealing. Not only do you enjoy a mass following, fame, and recognition but also you get to say a form of your opinion and everyone in your following will believe whatever comes into your mouth. That is why a lot of people are striving to gain such influence, such authority. The main reason why the very meaning of being an influencer seems to be blurry to some people. What really is an influencer? How do they influence people with their every move? 


According to a published article by Influencer Marketing Hub, an  influencer is someone: 

Who has the power to affect the purchasing decisions of others because of his or her authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with his or her audience.

Has a following in a distinct niche, with whom he or she actively engages. The size of the following depends on the size of his/her topic of the niche.

These individuals are not merely marketing tools, but rather social relationship assets with which brands can collaborate to achieve their marketing objectives. In short they are people who are responsible and usually the face of most businesses and companies nowadays. They represent products and they themselves position themselves as products to use as a marketing tool by those companies. That is why an influencers’ opinion about a certain topic is important because a lot of people are counting on them.  Now people make mistakes, but it is extremely difficult for an influencer to do that specially when the topic on hand is about societal issues. One wrong word, and the following that you had might be gone to seconds. You will receive a huge backlash, not only from your followers but also from other people who don’t even know you. 


If you are an influencer or trying to become one, you have to know the beauty and importance of your voice to the masses. Not only will it affect the minority but a well defined statement or opinion can actually change the perspective of people about you. Your antis could possibly be on your side. Commiting mistakes is common in humans, but with fame and recognition comes great responsibility. You should always have basic knowledge on what you’re saying in order to build your credibility. As an influencer, you must always remember this:
