Rape is not new to everyone. It is a stigma that happened generations before and it’s still happening today. Rape can be anyone. It can be coming from a stranger, an acquaintance, close friend or worse, relatives. Gender can’t really save you from being a victim. And neither what you wear can save you  from the dangers lurking in the shadows. You will never know when and where it will happen. So why is everyone blaming people’s choice of clothing as a motive of rape?

Long before, both women and men are raped  no matter what they wear, no matter who they are with. It can’t be prevented. It can’t be avoided. In this era where children below legal age can be molested at the comfort of their homes, how can anybody be sure that it is because of the choice clothes that ultimated their tragedy? A kids clothes cannot be a motive of rape and neither is short skirts, shorts, bodysuits, etc.

Rape isn’t a joke. What doesn’t happen to you doesn’t mean it can’t happen to you. It is saddening that social media today is used in all the wrong ways. Instead of promulgating awareness, most people intend to destroy one another by victim blaming. Instigating sorrow instead of sympathy. Social media are flocked by anonymous people hiding behind their computers as a coward that they are. They inject fear rather than self awareness. Telling victims that they deserve being victimized. Telling people that they suggest being raped. Which is all very wrong. This common misconception needs to stop. Another one is the role of authorities in these situations. Authorities who are supposed to take care of the welfare of these people should be the first person to understand and stop this stigma but instead, they’re joining the bandwagon of hate and disgust. This needs to stop. This all needs to stop. We need to realize that we are in a generation where things like this cannot be taken lightly anymore. Act and think logically. Penalized people who commit grave mistakes instead of taking their sides and blaming people. At this rate, victims would feel embarrassed to come out. Criminals might be enjoying freedom they don’t deserve. And the stigma of victim blaming will forever be encrypted to the minds of the many.

Remember, you can’t teach someone how to dress, but you can teach them not to rape. Consider victim blaming as a thing from the past. Promulgate self awareness, self love and encourage people to speak up. If they can’t, be their voice. If people can’t start the change. Before it is too late.
